Sessions are typically 50 minutes in lengths.
During your first session, we will discuss issues of confidentiality, ask about what you are hoping to gain from counselling, the course of therapy, and payment options. We will also discuss the challenges and benefits of therapy; and we will of course, be happy to answer any other questions you might have at that time.
Both in-person and virtual sessions are available and our work together maybe a combination of both. To access virtual sessions you will need access to Wi-Fi, a personal e-mail address as well as a camera on your computer tablet or telephone. You do not have to download any applications and there is no additional cost.
Confidentiality is a critical element of a therapeutic relationship, as such all information shared in a session is strictly confidential, with three exceptions as dictated by professional licencing:
1) If there are concerns about a person's physical safety and there is reason to believe they are at risk of harming themselves or another person;
2) if there is concern for a child or other vulnerable person's wellbeing;
3) when client information is subpoenaed by a Court of Law.
In the case of each of these exceptions, confidentiality may be breached but only to the degree necessary to meet the standards of practice and legal responsibilities of the therapist's professional association.Dr. Leigh's fee for service is consistent with the rates suggested by the College of Psychologists of British Columbia and also includes a sliding scale option. Ms Quesnel's fees are in line with those of other clinician in her area of expertise.
Payment, such as agreed upon, is expected at the end of each appointment.
Payments may be made in cash or e-transfer as well as by VISA, or Master card. A receipt will be issued immediately.
Psychological services are unfortunately not covered by provincial health care. However, you may be covered by a private insurance plan. You may therefore want to check with your insurance provider to determine if they are among those who cover this service. You should also note that psychological and counselling services are a tax-deductible expense.
